The Constitution of India is the law above all the laws and because of this constitution we are able to live freely. It runs the country. Dr. B.R Ambedkar formed the Constitution of India as he is considered as the main person who formed this constitution. The Constitution started its work from 26 November and it came into force on 26th January 1950, when the nation celebrates Republic Day with great joy and happiness. It was the time when the country declared complete Independence, for which, thousands people died. It was a feel of pride for the people who were present at that time when the constitution was being signed and read. The Constitution has several amendments and acts and it declared India as a Sovereign, Socialists, democratic republic, secular, and it assured that every citizen living in a democratic country would have a right of justice, freedom, equality and liberty. There are certain interesting facts about the constitution of India.

10. Time taken to form the Constitution

The 389 members of the Constituent Assembly took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to form the constitution of our country. It is because of them, that today we are able to enjoy so much of freedom and liberty.

9. The National Emblem

One of the most interesting facts about the Indian constitution is that on January 26, 1950 the lions of the Sarnath temple was adopted as the national emblem along with the bull, wheel, and horse.

8. Members of the Constituent Assembly

There were 385 members of the constituent assembly, of which, 292 were the members of the provincial legislative assembly and the remaining were elected from the princely states. And with that they also added the four chief commissioners provinces of Delhi, Ajmer-Marwar, Bluchistaan and Coorg. It is one of the most interesting facts of the Indian Constituion.

7. Number of women members in the Constituent Assembly

The Constituent Assembly consisted of 15 women members. Sarojini Naidu, VijayalakshmiPandit, Begum Aziz, Ammu Swaminathan and few more.

6. Indian Constitutions borrowed certain points from other constitutions

The Constitution of India is mostly original, but there are certain things that they took from other countries like equality, fraternity and liberty, which were taken from the Constitution of France.

Did you know that there are 284 signatures on the constitution of India, which was signed by the members of the assembly and after two days it came into existence on 26 January 1950.

It was not at all easy to write the constitution and it was not even a works’ day where the constitution was formed and written. The Constitution was framed on 26 November and it took almost three years for the members of the constitution to pass the amendments and constitution.

The Constitution of India is not a 10 page document it is damn lengthy and imagine that the Indian Constitution is hand written in beautiful calligraphy and it is written in both English and Hindi. There is no trace of any print in the entire constitution and it looks very beautiful and it written in cursive. The Constitution is now safely protected in a helium box in the parliament house.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 13 December 1946 set the road map for forming the Indian Constitution and B.R Ambedkar worked hard towards it in forming a proper shape.

The constitution of India is the longest constitution in the world with 448 articles, 94 amendments and 12 schedules. No doubt why it is the largest or the lengthiest constitution in the world.
