A voters’ ID card issued by the Election Commission of India is one of the most important documents an Indian citizen of age 18-years or above 18-years should possess.
Unlike other documents, a voters’ ID card has many advantages.
- Grants a cardholder the right to cast his/her vote at elections
- It can be used to prove the cardholder’s identity
- It can be used as an address proof
- It can prove the cardholder’s nationality
- A voters’ ID card is usually eligible to be submitted so as to prove the age/date of birth of the cardholder.

India is a democracy and the citizens of India have the right to elect their representatives by casting their vote at an election. Citizens can cast their vote only if he/she possesses a voters’ ID card. Telangana being a state in India comes under the jurisdiction and control of the Election Commission of India. It is this body that issues the voters’ ID card and conducts and controls the election all over the country.
Currently, the Election Commission of India offers only two methods to add a citizen’s name to the voters’ list.
- Offline method
- Online method
An offline method is the traditional method of applicant visiting the election office in person and submitting the form and the related documents. However, most of the people today do not tend to use this method as it is time-consuming and comparatively harder than the online method.
Here is everything you need to know about applying for voters’ ID card online in Telangana and also checking the application status and downloading the voters’ ID card online.
- Passport size photo

- Age Proof – Birth Certificate, Driving license, High school mark sheet, PAN card, Aadhaar letter issued by the UIDAI, andPassport.
- Address proof – Passport, Ration card, Driving license, Land phone bill, Electricity bill, Gas bill, Rent Agreement, Income tax assessment bill, letter or post delivered by the Indian postal department and Water Authority bills
Step by step procedure to apply voters ID card online
Applying voters’ ID card in Telangana online is pretty easy; the applicant just has to make sure he has all the pre-requisites mentioned above and the documents in his/her PC/laptop. The step by step procedure is mentioned below.
Step 1: Visit the official website of “Chief Electoral Officer Telangana” or click here http://ceotelangana.nic.in/
Step 2: On the Home screen of the CEO Telangana website, click the option “E-Registration” and then Select the option “Assembly Constituency”, then select the option “Form-6 (New Enrolment)”or click here http://www.nvsp.in/Forms/Forms/form6
Step 3: Now, the page redirects you to a new page website.if the page did not redirect you click here http://www.nvsp.in/Forms/Forms/form6
Step 4: The new website page that appears on the screen will have a heading “Form 6” and a fill-up form below it. The entire form language will be set to Hindi; you can change the form language, to change the language click the drop-down button above the heading and then select the language. Step 5: Now, You can start filling in the form. PS: all the fields marked with an asterisk (*) needed to be filled mandatory. If you skip any of the asterisk marked fields, the server will not accept the form and an error message will keep popping up the screen.
Step 6: Once have started filling in the form, enter all the details carefully. PS: enter a valid email ID and mobile number because once the application procedure is completed, the server will provide you a link to your personal profile and the status of the application will be updated regularly to your provided contact details.
Step 7: If you are half the way on the form filling in the fields, you will find a mandatory requirement to upload the documents as the proof of the details entered. The first field will be to upload “Your Photograph”, click the “Choose File” button below and a dialogue box pops up the screen, select the passport size photo (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from your saved file destination and click the “open” button on the dialogue box and the file will be uploaded.
Step 8: Now, you will find the field as requesting you to enter the “Age-Proof “document, click the button “Choose File” button below and a dialogue box pops up, select the Age proof document (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from your saved file destination and click the “open” button on the dialogue box and the file will be uploaded. After the file gets uploaded, select the type of document uploaded from the option below using the drop-down menu.
Step 9: Next, you will have the last field requesting you to upload the “Address proof”, click the “Choose File” button below and a dialogue box will appear, select the Address proof document (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from your saved file destination and click the “open” button on the dialogue box and the file will be uploaded. After the file gets uploaded, select the type of document uploaded from the option below using the drop-down menu.
Step 10: Once, you have completed the uploading the 3 files, the next section will be to fill up the declaration form, fill in the declaration form as requested and click “Submit” button.
Once, the website accepts the filled in Form-6 a new page will appear on the screen with an acknowledgment slip. This acknowledgment slip will have reference ID or a number. Save this detail for the future use. Now, after this procedure within 5 to 10-days a booth level officer will visit your residence in person to verify the details submitted on the form-6. Once, upon successful verification, the voters’ ID card application processing continues and within 30- 50-days the voters’ ID card will be delivered to your residential address by registered post.
Track/check the form application status.
Once, the application is submitted it takes almost 40 – 50-days for the voters’ ID card to get delivered at the applicant’s address, however, by this time the applicant can track the status of the application online. Here is how to check the status.
Step 1: Visit the official website of Chief Electoral Officer Telangana, or click here http://ceotelangana.nic.in/
Step 2: On the Home screen of the CEO Telangana website, click the option “E-Registration” and then Select the option “Assembly Constituency”, then select the option “Know Your Status” or click herehttp://ceotserms1.telangana.gov.in/TS_status/search.aspx
Step 3: On the new page you can find a fill-up form and some options on this form to check. Enter all the details as requested on the form.
Step 4: once you have completed filling in the form, click the “Search” button below.
Now, the website will display the status of your application on the screen.
Download voters’ ID card online
The Election Commission of India does not offer any services to download the voters’ ID card online. To be simple there is no actual option to download the official voters’ ID card from any sources, not even the official websites of Chief Electoral Officer or Election Commission of India offers this option. However, if you have lost the Voters’ ID card you can apply for a duplicated voters’ ID card, in the meantime, the cardholder or applicant can download the voters’ ID card details. Here is how to do it.
Step 1: Visit the official website of National Voters Services Portal or click here http://www.nvsp.in/ .
Step 2: Now, on the page, click the option “Booth, AC, and PC”
Step 3: Enter all the details as requested on the fill-up form that appears on the screen and then hit the “Search” button below.
If your name is added to the voters’ list then the page will display your name on the screen. Click this name and all the details on the voters’ ID card will be displayed. On the same page, you can find the option on the down bottom to download and print. Click this option and all the details will be downloaded and printed.
PS: This document cannot be used for any official purpose. So, do not option this method if you have lost the voters’ ID card, apply for a duplicate card.
