Rani Mukerji was born in Mumbai and hails from a family with big names from the industry. Her father, Ram Mukherjee is a former film director, who has the credit of being one of the founders of Filmalaya Studio, while her mother, Krishna Mukherjee has worked as a playback singer in the industry. Rani is also related to actress Kajol and director Ayan Mukerji, both of whom are her cousins. She did her schooling from Maneckji Cooper High School and graduated from SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai. She was interested in dance and trained in Odissi dance during her young days. Despite coming from a film background, Rani never wanted to become an actress, but fate had something else in store for her.
