J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Marries Journalist Nidhi Razdan in Private Ceremony, Shares Wedding Photos

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has married senior journalist and former NDTV anchor Nidhi Razdan in a private ceremony held on Friday, October 30, 2026. The couple publicly announced their marriage on Saturday by sharing photographs on social media, bringing attention to a personal milestone involving two well-known figures from Indian politics and journalism.

The 56-year-old Chief Minister confirmed the news through a post on X, writing, “A new journey began yesterday,” while tagging Razdan. The journalist, 49, shared photographs from the celebrations with the caption, “It’s done bro.” Their announcements quickly attracted attention across social media and national news platforms.

Private wedding in New Delhi

According to news agency PTI, the marriage was solemnised in New Delhi on October 30 under the Special Marriage Act, with relatives from both families serving as witnesses. The couple also held family celebrations in Srinagar and New Delhi. An earlier, small gathering in Srinagar brought together close relatives before the wedding.

Among those attending the functions were Abdullah’s parents, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah, along with his three sisters and other family members. Razdan’s parents, veteran journalist M. K. Razdan and Sarla Razdan, were also present. The celebrations were largely kept within the family rather than organised as a large public event.

Photographs shared by the couple showed them together during the celebrations. The posts confirmed the marriage a day after the ceremony, although neither offered a detailed public account of the proceedings.

Supreme Court dissolved Abdullah’s earlier marriage in July

The wedding comes three months after the Supreme Court dissolved Abdullah’s marriage to Payal Abdullah by mutual consent on July 31, 2026. The former couple had married in September 1994 and have two sons, Zahir and Zamir.

The divorce followed a prolonged legal dispute. In its July 31 order, the Supreme Court recorded that the parties had reached a settlement and that their marriage had broken down irretrievably. The court granted the divorce and directed that pending cases between them be withdrawn under the agreed terms.

The dispute had followed earlier decisions against Abdullah’s divorce petition. A family court dismissed his petition, and the Delhi High Court upheld that decision in December 2023. During his appeal before the Supreme Court, both sides signed a joint settlement in July 2026, allowing the case to conclude by mutual consent. The marriage to Razdan is the second for both Abdullah and the journalist.

Who are Omar Abdullah and Nidhi Razdan?

Omar Abdullah is a senior leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and the son of former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah. He previously led the erstwhile state government from 2009 to 2014 and returned to office in October 2024, becoming the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir since it was reorganised as a Union Territory. Earlier in his career, he served as a Union minister and represented Srinagar in the Lok Sabha.

Nidhi Razdan is known for more than two decades of work in television journalism, particularly her coverage of national politics, international affairs and Jammu and Kashmir. During her time at NDTV, she anchored programmes including Left, Right & Centre and The Big Fight. She left the channel in 2023 and is also the author of Left, Right and Centre: The Idea of India. Her reporting on the Kathua rape and murder case earned her the International Press Institute India award in 2020. Razdan was previously married to journalist and writer Neelesh Misra; they divorced in 2007.

Public congratulations

The announcement prompted messages of congratulations, including from BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut, who responded to the news on X. Although the marriage involves a serving Chief Minister and a prominent journalist, the couple have kept the focus of their public announcement on the photographs and brief messages shared on October 31.
