How Aaryan Shukla Became a Human Calculator

Aaryan’s journey into mental mathematics started when he was about six. According to Guinness World Records, he began regular mental-maths practice at that age and progressed quickly enough to start entering competitions within months. He has described consistent practice as one of the most important parts of his preparation.

His training is far more demanding than ordinary school arithmetic. Competitive mental calculation requires a participant to hold large numbers in memory, carry out several operations without writing intermediate steps, and produce an accurate answer under strict time pressure. Aaryan has said that many calculations now happen so quickly in his mind that he cannot always describe each internal step while he is performing them.

Mental Calculation World Cup Success

One of the biggest milestones in Aaryan’s career came in 2022, when he won the Mental Calculation World Cup in Paderborn, Germany, at the age of 12. He returned in 2024 and won the overall championship again.

His 2024 performance was especially strong. Official results placed him first overall with 819.84 points. He won the standard categories and also finished first in the combined surprise-task competition. During the event, he produced standout performances in addition, multiplication, square roots and calendar calculations. He also became the first competitor in the competition’s history to correctly solve all 100 calendar-date questions presented in the one-minute event.

Aaryan’s Guinness achievements brought his name to a much wider audience. In Dubai in December 2024, he set six Guinness World Records in a single day. Among those officially documented were 30.90 seconds to mentally add 100 four-digit numbers, 1 minute 9.68 seconds to add 200 four-digit numbers, and 18.71 seconds to add 50 five-digit numbers. He also completed demanding multiplication and division challenges at record speed.

He continued breaking records in 2026. Guinness World Records confirms that on April 11, 2026, in Lucca, Italy, he mentally calculated the square roots of ten eight-digit numbers in 71.22 seconds. On the same date, he completed ten mental divisions involving a 10-digit number and a five-digit number in 28.81 seconds. Recent 2026 coverage reports that his overall Guinness tally has reached nine records.

School, Family Support and Life Beyond Mathematics

Aaryan studies at Delhi Public School, Nashik. His rise is also a story of family support. Recent reporting identifies his father, Nitin Shukla, as a businessman and his mother, Meenal Shukla, as having stepped away from an IT career to support his development and competition schedule.

Despite his unusual mathematical ability, his interests are not limited to numbers. Reports have noted that he enjoys cricket, football and reading. He has also spoken about yoga as a way to stay calm and focused, something that is useful in competitions where a small lapse in concentration can spoil an otherwise correct calculation.
