Naseeruddin Shah was born in Barabanki and did his schooling from St Anselm in Ajmer, followed by St Joseph College in Nainital. Later, he joined the Aligarh Muslim University, followed by National School of Drama, Delhi. He married Manara Sikri at the age of 20 years and they had a daughter called Heeba. But the couple separated and she moved with her daughter to Iran. Shah married actress Ratna Pathak in 1982, after his first wife expired. They have two sons, Imaad and Vivaan, both of whom have started a career in acting.
