A voters ID in India is one of the most important documents an Indian citizen should possess once he is over 18-years of age. India being one of the largest democracies in the world grants every citizen over the age of 18 years to cast their vote during the election to elect the suitable candidate. However, in order, to cast the vote an Indian citizen should possess the Voters’ ID. In India, the voters’ ID is issued by the Election Commission of India.
Voters’ ID is not only a card that grants the cardholder the permission to vote it is also a document that proves the nationality of the cardholder; the voters’ ID is also an identity and address proof. Most of the Indian institutions whether private or public accept the voters’ ID as a proof of nationality, address, and identity.
Himachal Pradesh being one of the states of India comes under the authority of the election commission of India. The state has a Chief Electoral Officer who deals with the election process and issuing the voters ID card to the native of the state.
Currently, there are two methods to apply for a voters’ ID in Himachal Pradesh.
- Offline method
- Online method
Most of us know the procedure to be followed to register your name in the voters’ ID through an offline method. It is the traditional method of the candidate visiting the election office in person, filling in the form, and submitting the form with all the required proof documents. However, the online method is the latest method introduced by the ECI and is the simplest method of the only two methods available.
- Applicant should be an Indian citizen
- Applicant should be 18 years old or above
- Applicant if NRI, should be able to produce a document that proves his/her Indian citizenship.
- Age Proof – Birth Certificate, Driving license, High school mark sheet, PAN card, Aadhaar letter issued by the UIDAI, andPassport.
- Address proof – Passport, Ration card, Driving license, Land phone bill, Electricity bill, Gas bill, Rent Agreement, Income tax assessment bill, letter or post delivered by the Indian postal department and Water Authority bills
Things to remember
- All the proof document files have to be scanned and uploaded to the form during the registration process. The file scanned and saved should be less than the 100Kb file size
- The fill-up form for registration will have mandatory fields to fill in; if you skip any mandatory fields the form will be rejected.
Step by step procedure to apply for voters’ ID Himachal Pradesh

Step 2: On the Home screen page you will find two options, select the option “Voter Registration” click this option, the page will then redirect you to another website if the website does not redirect you to the national voters’ service portal then click here http://www.nvsp.in/.
Step 3: Now, on the new page, you will find the heading “National Voter’s Services Portal” and below that, you will find several options. Select the option that says “ Apply Online for registration of new voter/due to shifting for AC” or click here to skiphttp://www.nvsp.in/Forms/Forms/form6
Step 4: Now, the page will display a fill-up form with the heading “Form 6”. The default language of the form will be set toHindi; the same page will have options to change the language. Step 5: Now, start filling in the form carefully. PS: Theasterisk (*) marked fields are mandatory.
Step 6: Now start filling in the form with all the requested details, remember to be careful enough to enter the details correct as same as on the proof records.
Step 7: Once, you have started the filling in the form; the next field will be uploading the proof documents. Now, the first field is to upload “Your Photograph”, to upload the photograph, click on the “Choose File” button near and a box pops up, now select the photo (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from the file destination and then click the “open” button on the bottom of the box and the file will be uploaded instantly.
Step 8: The next field will be to upload the “Age-Proof”, now, click the button “Choose File” button near and then a box pops up, select the document required (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from the file destination and click the “open” button at the bottom of the box and the file will be uploaded. Now, select the type of document that you have uploaded from drop-down menu near.
Step 9: Next, will be to upload the “Address-proof”, click the button “Choose File” button near and a box pops up, select the document required (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from the file destination and click the “open” button at the bottom of the box and the file will be uploaded. Now, select the type of document that you have uploaded from drop-down menu near.
Step 10: Once, you have completed the uploading procedure, fill in the “declaration form” as requested and click the “Submit” button below.
How to check application status
Step 1: Visit the Chief Electoral Office, Himachal Pradesh or click here instead http://himachal.nic.in/index.php?lang=1&dpt_id=6
Step 2: On the home screen you will find the option “Check Status of your Application”, click this option.
Step 3: Now, a new page opens up with a fill-up form, enter all the details as requested on the form and click “Show” button.
If the entered details match the records, the screen will then display the status of your application.
How to download Voters’ ID Himachal Pradesh
Step 1: Visit the official CEO Himachal Pradesh or click here instead http://himachal.nic.in/index.php?lang=1&dpt_id=6
Step 2: Now, click the option “Search your name in Electoral Rolls by Name”
Step 3: On the new page fill-up form enter all the details as requested and click the “Search” button below.
Now the screen will display the name and details, click this name and the details will be displayed on the screen and now click the print option on the bottom and the details will be downloaded and printed.
