A voters’ ID is one of the important identification document an Indian citizen can possess. In India, the voters’ ID is issued by the Election Commission of India. One of the important roles of a Voters’ ID is that it grants the cardholder the right to vote. The Voters’ ID card is also a document that reveals the nationality of the cardholder. Today, there are only two ways one can apply for a voters’ ID card. The Online method and offline method but, the most used method today is the online method as it is easy for the applicant to complete the procedures easily. Here is the step by step procedure
Apply Voters ID Online
Step 1: Visit the official website of Chief Electoral Officer Chandigarh or click here instead http://ceochandigarh.nic.in/
Step 2: Now, click the “National Voters’ Service Portal” Select this option or instead click here http://www.nvsp.in/
Step 3: Now, a new tab opens up with a heading “National Voter’s Services Portal” and below that, several options to select from. From this option select the “ Apply Online for registration of new voter/due to shifting for AC” or click here instead http://www.nvsp.in/Forms/Forms/form6
Step 4: Then, a new page appears, on the new page you can find a heading “Form 6” and a fill-up form below. The entire form will be in Hindi, now, if you are fine filling in the form in Hindi then you can do it in Hindi, However, the instructions here will be for English medium form. Now to change the language to English, above the heading “Form 6” the page provides you the option to change the language. Step 5: Fill in the form carefully and rememberall the fields with an asterisk (*) are mandatory. Skip the asterisk marked fields and the server will not accept the form.
Step 6: Once, you have started filling the form; enter all the details which include the email ID and mobile number and other details.
Step 7: On the form, you will find a mandatory requirement to upload the documents as the proof the details entered. The first field is to upload “Your Photograph”, click the “Choose File” button below and a dialogue box pops up, select the passport size photo (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from your saved file destination and click the “open” button on the dialogue box and the file will be uploaded
Step 8: Next upload the “Age-Proof”, click the button “Choose File” button below and a dialogue box pops up, select the Age proof document (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from your saved file destination and click the “open” button on the dialogue box and the file will be uploaded. After the file gets uploaded, select the type of document uploaded from the option below using the drop-down menu.
Step 9: Next, you will have the field requesting for the “Address proof”, click the “Choose File” button below and a dialogue box will appear, select the Address proof document (jpg, png, bmp, jpeg) from your saved file destination and click the “open” button on the dialogue box and the file will be uploaded. After the file gets uploaded, select the type of document uploaded from the option below using the drop-down menu.
Step 10:Now after completing the uploading procedure, enter the details in the declaration form below as requested on the form and then click “Submit” button.
Now the page will display the registration ID/reference ID will appear on the screen that can be used to track the status.
It usually takes a month for the voters’ ID to get delivered to your address. However, in the mean time, you can check the status of your application online.
Check application status
The CEO Chandigarh official website currently does not offer any application tracking service. But, the National Voters’ Service Portal does.
Step 1: Visit the official “National Voters Service Portal”. Select this option or click here insteadhttp://www.nvsp.in/
Step 2: Now, a new tab opens up with a big bold heading “National Voters’ Services Portal” and below that, you will find few options. Select the option that “Track application status” or click here instead http://www.nvsp.in/Forms/Forms/trackstatus
Step 3: Now, a new page appears on the new page you will find a heading “Online Application Status” and a fill-up form below it. Enter the “Reference ID” as requested.
Step 5: Once, you completed entering the ID, click the “Track Status” button below.
Now the page will display the status of your application.
Download the voters’ ID
Currently, there is no option to download an official copy of the voters’ ID online. But, the user can check if the name is added to the voters’ list and at the same time download the voters’ ID card details. However, this cannot be used for any official purposes.
Step 1: Visit the official National Voters’ Services Portal or click here http://www.nvsp.in/
Step 2: On this page, on the right-hand side you will find a heading “Citizen Information” and two options below it. Select the option “Booth, AC, and PC” or click here instead http://electoralsearch.in/
Step 4: Now, on the page, you will find an option “Search by Details” and “Search by EPIC No”, select any one option and a fill-up form will appear. Enter all the details carefully as requested and submit the form.
Step 5: Once, the form has submitted the page displaying your voter ID information appears on the screen with an option on the down-right bottom to “Print Voter Information” click this option to print or download the info.
Remember this option cannot be used to download a duplicate voters’ ID. This option can only be used to download a temporary Voters’ ID and most of the government or private institution will not accept it as an official document.
