Terrorism has become a global problem today, with more and more countries coming under the grip of this dreadful epidemic, which has been claiming millions of innocent lives every year. A special index called Global Terrorism Index (GTI) has been devised to establish a ranking for countries in terms of terrorist activity. The index has based the ranking on the terrorist attacks which have taken place in these countries in the past 10 years. It has helped evaluate the worst countries to live in, in terms of safety against terrorism.
Here is a list of top 10 worst affected countries by terrorism:
Thailand is one of the worst places when it comes to terrorism, with the South Thailand region being particularly affected by the insurgency. It has been given a rating of 7.19 on GTI.
With a GTI rating of 7.29, the small nation of Philippines makes it on number 9 among the worst afflicted countries by terrorism. The rebel Islamic terrorist groups like Jemaah Islamiyah, Moro National Liberation Front and Moro Islamic Liberation Front, have been responsible for the dangerous conditions in the country.
Featuring next on the list of top 10 worst affected countries by terrorism is Yemen, where the terrorism situation worsened in September 2014 as the government was overthrown by the rebel group called the Houthis. The GTI has rated Yemen at a score of 7.31.
Somalia has been facing terrorism on the hands of Al Qaeda for the past two decades, with its people living in the shadow of constant fear. It is rated at 7.41 in GTI.
