Konkana Sen Sharma was born in New Delhi and hails from an influential family, with her father Mukul Shrma being a journalist and science writer and mother Aparna Sen, a highly acclaimed actress and film director. Her maternal grandfather, Chidananda Dasgupta was a co founder of Calcutta Film Soceity, besides being a noted writer, film critic and scholar. Konkana did her schooling from Modern High School for Girls, Calcutta and Calcutta International School, while she got her degree in English from the prestigious St Stephen’s College in Delhi. Konkana started dating her co actor Ranvir Shorey in 2007 and they got married in 2010.
Konkana Sen Sharma showed a great promise at an early stage, when she appeared as a child artist in a Bengali film called “Indirah” in 1983, which was followed by her adult debut in 2000 Bengali movie called “Ek Je Aachhe Kanya”, in which she was featured in a negative role. She made her English debut in 2001 with a movie called “Mr and Mrs Iyer”, in which she played a Tamil housewife. The film fetched her, the National Award for Best Actress and opened the doors of opportunities for Konkana. Next came her first commercial Bollywood venture, the Madhur Bhandarkar movie “Page 3”, a 2005 release which cast her in the role of an honest journalist. The film made her a household name in the industry and she garnered huge applause for her realistic performance. The role played by her in the 2006 movie “Omkara” got her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress, along with Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
