Kajol Mukherjee was born in Mumbai in a prestigious family, with her father Shomu Mukherjee being a noted film producer and directors and mother, Tanuja, a highly acclaimed actress. Her maternal grandmother Shobhna Samarth, too was a veteran actress in Bollywood, while her paternal grandfather Shashdhar Mukehrjee was also a successful film maker.
