Joseph Vijay was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and his father SA Chandrasekhar is a noted producer and director in the Tamil film industry, while his mother Shobha Chandrasekhar is a playback singer. He studied visual communication at Loyola College in Chennai. He has been married to Sangeeta Sornalingma and his son, Sanjay was born in 2000 in London, while daughter Divya was born in2005 in Chennai. In addition to his successful acting career, Joseph Vijay is recognized for his philanthropic work too. One of the humanitarian works in which he has been involved are the establishment of a social welfare organization called Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, which was involved in relief work at the site of Cuddalore flood. He has also worked against child labor, poverty and lack of education in the country and has made continual efforts to encourage meritorious students by honoring them with the Illayathalpathy Vijay Educational Awards.
Vijay Joseph started his career as a child artist with his debut coming in a film called “Vetri” and went on to do a number of roles in some Tamil movies. As a lead actor, he made his debut in “Naalaya Theerpu” in 1992. He went on to do many hit films one after the other, including “Rasigan”, “Sendhoorpandi”, “Vishnu”, “Chandralekha” and “Coimbatore Mappillai”.
